Hot Angels and Cool Demons Blog Tour is at my place today!

What is it about those beautiful, pure angels that attract us so blatantly? For me, it’s the breadth and strength of chest and shoulders able to bear the weight of those magnificent wings. It’s in the perfection of body and the intelligence of mind. It’s the thought that if they love, it would be true and innocent and forever. And come on, who can resist the sensual allure in the thought of seducing one of those magnificent creatures! Would it start with a chaste kiss, quickly heating to more? Or would it be come in a blaze of light and fire as we’re swept up into hungry arms and devoured by a newly awaked, fully aroused lover.

But what of their counterparts, those irreverent and sexy-as-hell demons? We know they’re evil beneath that wickedly handsome exterior. What does it matter how they fill out those jeans and make our bones melt with that ravishing smile? They’re BAD GUYS! Seducing virgins and stealing souls with an earth shattering kiss. Maybe we can’t help ourselves when we fall for their dark seductions, the heated glance across the room over the head of a current partner. Spellbound, we walk to his side and never think to resist when he pulls us into his arms. I guess we can claim ‘the devil made me do it’!

So how do these creatures of myth and legend translate into our flesh and blood world? I think the angels would be the innocents, the ones caught in the war between good and evil, young and sweet and in need of a hero’s protection. They’d be the lovely, sweet-tempered partner who holds us close at night, whose kisses warm our soul. They’d be the kind neighbor or good friend or fair boss.

And the Demons? Those who prey upon the weak and helpless without regret or remorse. The less said about them, the better. Rarely are they as hot and sexy as the books depict.

In my paranormal/thriller ALEX, we find just this scenario. In a small town inColorado, the citizens are being stalked by a serial killer, my ‘demon’, if you will. My angel boy, ALEX, innocent and broken, is able to see into the killer’s mind. Tortured by visions of death and murder, Alex is trying to hold on to his sanity in a world that doesn’t understand him.

Raised in isolation by a physically and emotionally abusive parent, on her death, Alex is thrust into a world of violence and intolerance that bewilders and hurts him. He hears the cries of children, the screaming women. Alex has been left with horrible scars on his body and even worse scars within his mind. Even though it puts him in danger, he’s compelled to help those who call to him. He’s driven, motivated by his visions to rescue them and uncover the killer. When he can, he helps the police; yet some detectives suspect he’s the cause of the problem, not the solution.

In this world, the angels might be the children playing in the street and the demons could be living next door.

Excerpt:

Alex blinked in the sudden spill of light, his head throbbing to the staccato rhythm of his heart. He straightened to ease the weight on his wrists tied over his head to a hook in the low ceiling.

Hard fingers touched his chest, and he flinched in revulsion from a woman standing too close. She might have been pretty once, but her face was pocked with scars. Her stringy blond hair hung in greasy clumps. He realized that he’d been stripped of his clothes when he felt her hands slide over his body.

Jack Gibson bounded down the steps and shoved the woman to one side. “None of that!”

Alex staggered as the man jabbed a fist into his stomach. Gibson swung again and again. The blows fell heavily until Alex hung limp and trembling from the hook. He cried out as one fierce punch seemed to crack his ribs, and his mind swooned toward blackness.

He was slapped awake, and he opened his eyes to find Gibson shaking him by the hair. “Answer me when I speak to you.”

Gibson struck again.

Alex tasted blood in his mouth. “I didn’t hear you,” he began, and the man cuffed his ear. “I didn’t hear …” The man slapped him again, and his ears rang. “Yes, sir,” he mumbled.

“Very good, dog. Now yelp for me.”

Alex looked at him in confusion.

“Speak, dog.” A riding crop slashed across his face. “Speak for your master.”

Alex clenched his teeth as the tip of the riding crop stung his twitching body.

The evening stretched into an endless nightmare as Gibson grew more creative. At times, Alex fell into a fitful sleep, exhausted with pain, only to have the man rouse him and start again.

The smell of a cigarette woke him, and he saw its glowing tip near his face. With horror, he jerked instinctively, and Gibson grabbed the back of his neck. Alex focused on the faint light from the stairwell as the man took a drag of his cigarette and blew smoke into his face.

Gibson spoke quietly. “What do the B’s on your shoulder mean?”

Alex pressed his lips tightly closed. Gibson roared and savagely kicked him, leaning over his hunched shoulders. “This is what happens when someone interferes with me. You should have left the boy in the river.”

Alex lost himself in pain as the cigarette was pressed to his shoulder. He screamed as Gibson burned him again and again. He passed out long before the man finished.
