Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

    • Grab your current read
    • Open to a random page
    • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
    • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
    • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

The Value of X is a coming-of-age story set on the mean streets of New Orleans’ rundown Lower Ninth Ward.

My tease:

Meeting in secret, talking about sending their kids to a ‘place’, lurking in the hallway outside his son’s room before dawn–Elmer found himself thinking that perhaps all this was as wrong as whatever Gary and Rickey had been doing. He pulled the door shut, relocked it, and padded back down the hall.

The Value of X, Poppy Z. Brite, pg. 43

  1. Great teaser… although I’m a little creeped out by the door being shut and relocked before he pads back down the hall! Sounds a little sinister!
