LET’S PARTY!
Oh, the wonders of Halloween! As a child I was blessed with imaginative and fun-loving older siblings who made Halloween a deliciously scary holiday for us kids. It would start at the beginning of October with us ransacking the back of closets and trunks in the basement for the perfect costumes. It had to be something different every year.
Oh, we lived in the perfect neighborhood! Ours wasn’t the only front lawn converted into a graveyard and had haunting music playing at the door. Houses perched on little hills with long steep stairs to the doorway. The whispers of other children hidden by the bushes of neighboring houses added to the eerie silence. The cool night and the smell of pumpkins and caramel corn on the air were so chillingly delicious.
I think these memories are what make this season and holiday my most favorite! Halloween was fun, sure, but it was the creepy scary wonderfulness of it that’s stuck with me. In my short story COSTUMES I wanted to bring that same eeriness and tiny feel of danger to my two men. What’s Halloween without being half scared to death, anyway?
PRIZE TIME! I’d like to give away any book on my backlist and a $5 ARe Books gift card to a commenter who tells me what their favorite Halloween candy is. Please leave your contact info. Trick-or-Treat! By the way, the hop runs from Oct 12-14th!
Costumes, part of Halloween Heat I m/m
There’s a presence in the attic, malevolent, waiting. When Bennie’s aunt passes away he’s given the task of sorting her things before the estate sale. But the chore that should have been a pleasant visit to the past becomes a nightmare for him and his longtime lover, Paul, as the dark presence seeks a new home in them. Their once gentle and sensual love turns to a dark passion, hard and rough and hurtful. Paul sees the change, but will his love be strong enough to save them?
Adult Excerpt:
Bennie started pulling out wigs and hats and scarves, a pirate shirt and a werewolf mask. “Remember this one?” he asked and giggled as he held up a pink tutu.
“Oh god, yes. I thought your father was going to have a seizure. What were we, ten?” Paul rubbed the frilly skirt between his fingers. He’d grown up in the house next to the Ramseys, and he and Bennie were as close as brothers. Closer, when at fourteen they discovered it was more fun to sleep in the same bed than separately.
Bennie flashed him a look, light blue eyes dancing with mischief. Paul’s heartbeat quickened. Bennie’s hair fell in reddish-blond ringlets around his pale face. A few freckles brushed his checks, and Paul bent his head and licked them. He’d teased Bennie as a child that he’d wash them away one day with his tongue. One night, in Paul’s room, Bennie had shown him where his other freckles were. Now he could never taste these without wanting the others.
Bennie quirked a brow. “Think it will still fit me?”
Paul’s hungry gaze traveled the slender body of his lover. “You’ve filled out some,” he murmured, purposefully lingering on the provocative bulge in Bennie’s snug jeans.
Pretty color tinged Bennie’s cheeks. “Let’s find out.” He pulled his T-shirt over his head, wiggled out of his pants, and tied the tutu around his hips.
Paul chuckled and tilted his head. “Your underwear’s showing.”
Bennie looked at the blue cotton peeking from under the edge of the pink fluff. “Easily fixed,” he said slipped off the boxers. Paul sucked in a breath. Bennie had grown in the past nine years, and the tutu stopped shy of covering his balls.
“Fuck,” Paul whispered, his dick instantly hard. He reached to cup Bennie’s luscious sac, but his darling skipped out of reach, laughing over his shoulder as he fled across the room. He did several surprisingly good pirouettes along the way, and Paul growled and started after him at the flash of his delicious ass. Bennie struck a casual pose against an old dresser, but nibbled his lip, a sure sign he was just as aroused.
Paul gripped the back of Bennie’s head to hold him in place when he reached him and plundered his mouth, sucking the sweetness off his tongue. Bennie thrust his hips, and Paul dropped his hands to grip his firm ass and lift him onto the dresser. He laughed, seeing Bennie’s swollen cock tangled in the layers of tulle.
“This is a problem,” he murmured and kneaded Bennie’s balls. He leaned down and gently bit Bennie’s dick, savoring his gasp.
Paul jumped back at a sudden crash on the floor. The discordant notes of some old song filled the air.
They looked at the broken music box by Paul’s feet, still playing its haunting melody. Bennie smiled sheepishly. “Sorry. Knocked it off the shelf.” Then his face brightened. “Oh, something pretty.” He jumped off the dresser and retrieved a gold chain from the splinters.
Paul stared at the old-fashioned skeleton key lying in Bennie’s slim hand. A shiver ran through him, though he couldn’t say why.
“Put it down. I’m not through with you.”
But Bennie seemed captivated by the keepsake. Paul shook his arm, and Bernie finally looked up at him, blinking several times as if to focus. A brilliant smile crossed Bennie’s face as he slipped the gold chain over his neck. The key glittered obscenely against his leanly muscled chest, and Paul wanted to rip it off him. He’d never believed in that paranormal crap, but the key seemed to exude an aura of malice and danger.
“You’ll have to catch me,” Bennie teased, backing away with a twirl of the pink tutu and giving Paul a splendid view of his ass as he trotted away. Paul dashed after him, but he managed to stay out of reach, dodging behind furniture and boxes. Paul almost pinned him against a dresser, but when he lowered his head for a kiss, Bennie slipped out from under his arm and escaped.
“Bennie,” Paul growled.
Bennie laughed over his shoulder and finally allowed Paul to trap him in a dimly lit corner.
“You’ll pay now,” Paul murmured between kisses, then made Bennie face the wall and spread his legs.

I asked my youngest daughter (she’s 6) what her favorite Halloween candy is and she said (just not in soo many words), “I like when the one house gives me a puzzle. Like the one year when I got a kitty cat puzzle, and it comes with a little lollipop.” I’m soo glad that it’s still the little things that make her happy! For me – anything that is chocolate is my favorite Halloween candy!!!
I definitely have to read Halloween Heat I and IV!!!

Dianne, I really enjoyed Paul and Bennie’s journey in “Costumes.” The possession was wicked good. I might send them back into the house again. LOL. I really think all the stories are really great! We all have different styles, but I think the overall themes of each compliment the anthology as a whole.
Favorite candy is nerds or sixlets. I am also a candy korn fan. Thanks for the giveaway.

Favorite Candy? I’d have to say Snickers, even if that’s an all year round candy. I’m not big on sweet nor chocolate *gasp!* but give me a Snickers bar and I’m in heaven!

These two lads are so sweet!
Unfortunately, in my country, Romania, we don’t celebrate Halloween (although all bars and clubs hold Halloween parties). we celebrate St. Andrew’s Day, which in our folk tales is considered the day when the dead exit their tombs and mingle with the living. The tradition says that hanging garlic over the front door will stop these zombies from entering the house.
anyway, I’ll go with what the other commenters are saying. If I were to choose a favorite flavour, chocolate is by far the best. yummy!
